God said, “This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: I have set my bow in the clouds, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth.
-Genesis 9:13

Covenant Companionship is a non-canonical form of belonging to the Wheaton Franciscan community through a public and formal commitment. The intention (purpose) of the Way of Life of Covenant Companionship is to share in and live out the spirit and life of the Wheaton Franciscan charism within one’s own vocational call and lifestyle so that together we might BE peace, transformation, hope, and healing in our world.

Covenant Companions are women and men who are seriously pursuing growth in their spiritual journey and who embody the mission, charism, and philosophy of the Wheaton Franciscans. This covenant relationship provides mutual companionship and support, as well as the opportunity to share gifts for life and ministry.

The form of life of a covenant companion is to observe the Gospel, living in respect for all creation, in gratitude for God’s generous love, and in loving relationship with one another. Following the example of St Francis, St. Clare, and Mother Clara Pfaender, Covenant Companions are called to integrate the gospel in every aspect of their lives.

Covenant Companions make an annual commitment to The Way and the Life of Covenant Companionship with the Wheaton Franciscans.

If you are interested in the Covenant Way of Life you are encouraged to visit the Wheaton Franciscan Community, to engage in conversation with Covenant Companions and Sisters; to enroll and participate faithfully in the two-year Exploring the Franciscan Way of Life program, and to participate in the public life of the Community.
