The Wheaton Franciscans foster a community of faith that strives to be a blessing in the heart of the world.

A community of vowed women (Sisters) and covenant (associate) women and men, who live the Gospel following the spirit of St. Francis and St. Clare of Assisi, and our foundress Mother M. Clara Pfaender. We are a welcoming community of faith striving together to be instruments of peace, hope and justice in our world today. We invite you to join us as seekers – in prayer – in worship – in personal growth – in mission – in community. The Wheaton Franciscans are the United States province of an international congregation, the Franciscan Sisters, Daughters of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary.

In the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi and our foundress Clara Pfaender, the mission of our Province is to live the gospel life, discovered in prayer and community. Through loving presence and service we foster personal and community growth as we respond to the needs of the church and the times.

Compelled by the Spirit to fresh expressions of our Franciscan life,
We commit:

to exploring again the heart of our charism,

to deepening our bonds with each other, and

to facing the mystery of the not-yet-known

that we may respond anew to the needs of our times.

We go forth to be a blessing in the heart of the world.

These milestones hold our most treasured photos and documents. We have a rich history of responding to the needs of a constantly changing society, with a particular preference for serving the poor.
